It is about how you carry yourself. Some are quick to label us. I just choose to ignore them. FashioBIGsta is about seeing your body as a canvas, and sense of style as the masterpiece. Not encouraging obesity. But I know how difficult it is to find good clothes for plus-size. So, let's make masterpieces together.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.comBlogger38125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-4307292876110671122017-01-18T19:30:00.000+08:002017-01-18T19:32:23.748+08:00So what!?

Hey everyone...Happy New Year 2017. Another year's passed, and again, I've failed to update regularly. Sorry about that. Been traveling, though that's no excuse, and been just not-so-camera-ready. Not look wise, just not all that much into selfies. I am now realising that it is very important to have a willing photographer at hand! hahahahah!

So have been exploring more shops or retailers with plus-size clothes here in KL. And at the same time figuring out about my potential business plan. I have been trying to set-up an online retail biz just for plus-size and it's been an adventure to say the least. Not easy for sure. But also the fact that I am now on the "smaller" side of the plus-size community. Losing weight has allowed me to find clothes at "normal" retail shops as I can now fit into large M's and also the standard L's and XL's. And what would look good on Me may not look good on other actual plus-sizes.

Research has not been easy as a lot of these ladies are also very shy to meet up. Most ladies I have met seem to have that mind set that they only look good in certain styles and are not willing to explore into other styles. I want to be able to convince them that some body shape even though large can wear Lindy-bob dresses, and even bodycon. They just need to be willing to ignore their buldges and believe they do look good.

So what my arm is big. So what my thighs are wide. I look good! I believe I do, and I can pull off any styles.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-81732094345514747602016-08-02T13:41:00.000+08:002016-08-02T13:43:45.628+08:00Personal Shopper for Plus SizeSo, me and a girlfriend have decided to venture into this business of helping plus size women find their ideal clothing. We've noticed some women struggle to find clothes that fits them, especially here in Malaysia. Unfortunately for us big girls here in Malaysia, everything is super small, even the L sizes. Yes, majority of Asian women are small. We even have size XS. We are stuck to shopping at Marks & Spencer, Ms Read, Flow, Debenhams, Dorothy Perkins, and to those on the borderline gets to shop in H&M, Wallis and some in-store brands in Parkson, Isetan & Robinsons. We have been doing our own little research and discovered, most of us big girls have to shop online for sizes 18 above and hope that it would fit them. But alas, most would buy just because the size is big. Not because it would look good on them. Whatever is available, they'll take...to their taste...and here's the problem. Some assumed that they are limited to a certain style and never dared to try something new.

So the past month, Linda and I have been clearing out our preloved clothes online, and have invited some of these lovely ladies to come by and try on our clothes before purchasing. Our taste are quite eclectic, so we had a wide range of styles. We had lotsa fun, and met so many interesting lovely ladies. Here we discovered that some size clothes would fit differently on different sizes. For example, Linda is a size UK18, but yet, she cant fit into a dress that a size 20 could. The built of a woman makes a lot of difference. There are certain size UK16 that I cant fit, and yet, there are size UK14 that I could.

Yes, yes, I know this is not new. But what we hope to do is help plus size women to discover what looks best on them. We're in the midst of starting the business - sourcing for a wide variety of clothes and accessories. We also have a shoemaker who could make-to-order shoes according to your sizes. Not all women are born with slender legs, so most boots sold in the market out there only caters to women with small calves.

If you think this is something that would help you, do give us your feedback on what other problems you encounter when it comes to fashion.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-80053099533368832062016-04-06T17:19:00.002+08:002016-04-06T17:19:58.398+08:00Plus Size MakeoverLast Dec 2014, I decided to leave the corporate world. I've tried dabbling into small businesses. In fact, I believe one should venture into multiple businesses, if you do not want to build a big empire. Like me, I am not one to sacrifice my time and money too much into work anymore. I do not wish to sacrifice whatever time left at my age to be stuck in the office, counting expenses. Being a single mother, I have given too much part to work that I missed out on spending enough time with my daughter. She is growing up way too fast. Turning 18 this year, and probably leaving the nest soon, I realised that I had missed out on her growing years.

Yes, initially, I thought I would get into fashion
retail, as this is one of my passion. I realised that big girls like myself find it difficult to find clothes that fits us, and most time we'd find clothes that does not flatter us. I have been told that I do dress well for someone my size. Somehow I am able to make myself presentable. Despite having a tummy (that I failed to get rid off after giving birth 18 years ago), I am still considered well, dare I say it, SEXY...Corporate smart is also a breeze too. And yes, somehow, as they say, "find these clothes in your size!?"

But I am not keen on the idea of keeping stocks. Inventory is not something I want to burden myself with if what I want is also freedom of time. So, after some deliberation, and some chats with real good friends, maybe I could get into the styling side of fashion. I would like to offer my service in makeover! Often, I get friends asking how I decided what works on me. So, why not let me help you change, look-wise.

Here's the plan: get in touch with me, and email me at shasharina@gmail.com, send me your photo, measurements if you can, and tell me what is the biggest problem you face.

Hope to hear from you. Have a good day, darls!
Sorry, been busy traveling the world. Will share some of my fave holiday looks with you. Being big shouldnt stop you from being comfortable. Just go ahead and be as casual you can be. You are after all on HOLIDAY! Why casual? Why lug around luggage after luggage when you need to go from one place to another? Why torture yourself with all them baggages? They are after all "baggages". Because of them, your flights become more expensive. Because of them, room space becomes important when you're barely in your room when on holiday.

Find a style you look good in, and find the material that is the lightest. For holidays, what's important is your shoes, and your sanity! One light sweater or a wrap is good enough for those cold nights if it's the warm season, and one trench coat and a damn good socks should be good in them cold weather...but of course, winters are never a favourite time to holiday! Why restrict yourself with all those layers when you should be out exploring and enjoying yourself?

For those with slimmer legs, shorts and shorts and shorts...pair your shorts with the right tops for the right occasions. If you have big thighs and calves, thin long skirts or thin long pants would be good. No, you should not wear shorts! Seriously, no matter how "small" you think you look up there, if you have trunks as legs, dont show it off. Sorry to be blunt, but if it's not proportionate, why flaunt them? It's called flaunt for a reason!

So, you cant find the right shorts? You've a big belly but small butt? Or big butt with small waistline? Keep searching, try them on, and then purchase. Never buy without trying. A big mistake I learned from...Allowed a sales woman who was obviously a body shamer, to get me to purchase 3 pairs of shorts supposedly on sale and until today, I cant wear them...TOO BIG! So, if I can get too big a short, I am sure you can find good ones just right for you. I would suggest outlets like Debenhams or Dorothy Perkins for plus sizes. But if you are just an XL or L in the "average" outlets like H&M or Kitschen, then, yeah, those places have good ones too...but if you want them high waisted, then no Kitschen please.

Now, not sure if you guys know this, but places like Tesco, and Isetan also have plus sizes clothing. I was extremely happy to find a pair of shorts (they have many big ones actually) in Tesco, and it was a size S! hahahahaha! One of my fave pair of shorts too. And even Aeon, under the Scarlet brand, has shorts up to XXL size. So, go check them out.

So what should you match your shorts with? Depending on your body type. Again, comfort is important. But if you're gonna constantly be sucking in your tummy while on holiday, perhaps that style isnt for you. As much as I am an advocate of corset, you do not want to go on a beach holiday with it! If you will end up with a muffin top with the shorts on, do not wear t-shirts that are tight around the tummy. Do not put on crop tops! Do get yourself those short kaftan blouse. These usually comes in real thin materials. But if you like t-shirts so much, then try to find those a-line kinds. The ones with a wider open bottom. If you like straps/tanks, then get the babydoll types. Those are cute so long as your arms are cute too. Unfortunately for Me, I have huge-ass arms! It's in the genes....damn it!

So here are some samples of how I look at holidays...beach holidays that is...

Well, hello again, my friends. Life has been quite a roller coaster ride since I last blogged. It has been quite a ride indeed. So many things happened that made me stop blogging for a bit. Had to sort out my life, my goals, my future. Started with the trip to Bali. March 8. Was sunbathing on Seminyak beach. I was soaking in the morning sun when I received msgs about the tragic disappearance of MH370. Since then, I've worn this bracelet which I bought from a lady peddling along the beach. Kinda like a reminder that life is indeed short. I can't imagine how it would be like if I was somewhat "involved" in that. Very sad.

Then, a month later, I was admitted into hospital to discover I have an abnormal esophagus that caused me to get acid reflux. Which then led to the discovery of...me being a diabetic but type 2. 2 reasons - my dad has it, so I get it too...but the worse reason is of course, I am overweight. The most exercise I do is walking while shopping. Not good ya! Laziness was the obvious reason. I knew I had to make a change.

Since then I have been looking after my weight and of course my health. Diet has not been great. Slow...but surely. From a size 16, and sometimes 18, depending on the cutting of the clothing item, I am now down to a 14, and maybe 12 on certain styles. Not much of a drop, but at least I am losing weight. It felt good just trying on clothes. I dare not shop so much these days in case I lose more weight. One thing I know I will not shop for right now are jeans. Nope. It is still a challenge to find the right jeans to wear. The weight loss has caused me to lose so much meat from my ass! yeah...crude...but true! I lost my butt! So, beli cantik mana pun, once you see me from behind, you'd ask, "where's her ass?" grrrr

So, lately I've been wearing lots of skirts...everything with skirts! I am on a skirt obsession. Not even skinny jeans can help me! It's just skirts, dresses...and even short jumpsuits. No pants for miss Shasha...lol!

Anyway, I am back and I will continue sharing my thoughts on fashion, and what I personally think would suit someone my size - more or less. Have seen ladies smaller than me wearing really ugly clothes. Sayang...And big girls...stop buying aunty clothes. There are plus-sizes clothes that can actually make you look better. I won't say slimmer because why bother deceiving, just make the best of what we are for now.

But I will also share my journey on weight loss. Share ways to help you lose the weight. Do it for yourself, for your health. For your loved ones.

Isn't your love worth the effort? Follow me on this new journey...I have so much more to share.

xoxo
In 2 days time I will be in Bali. Will try to keep in touch as much as I can. You know how bad internet connection is in all this holiday spots. But in some ways, I am glad not to be connected. Sometimes a little privacy is what we need in this day and age.

Anyway, I thought I'd share some ideas for casual Friday. Where I work, we have casual Friday where a staff is allowed to wear jeans that one day of the week. Of course, casual means still looking smart. It is still a corporate world after all.

Here are some of the looks I'd go for on that TGIF moment.

Last Friday, I chose to wear my white mullet shirt. You don't really get to see the tail in this photo, but it is a good 6 inches longer than the front. So, it isn't just an ordinary shirt. I know many would avoid white shirt. I usually do. But worn with the right bottom and accessories, it can flatter a full figure too. When you buy a shirt, unless you are wearing a corset, don't get smaller sizes or one that fits tightly to your figure. Let it loose.

I wore this with my light blue jeggings, and added in this colourful bib necklace I got from Bangkok. I love bib necklaces. But those I found in KL looks very cheap. And the nicer ones are of course expensive. And of course, what look is complete without a handbag. I love this YSL easy bag as it casual yet sleek enough to make this an office attire. Usually I'd have my hair loose on Friday. But everyone's got a bad hair day sometimes.

Next is another way of wearing the white shirt. I did share this particular photo before. A different white shirt. Got this from Debenhams and it has a knot at the front. Paired this with my straight-cut jeans, and again the YSL bag. What is different is the scarf. Indeed it can look too matchy-matchy where you start wearing same colours on yourself, but I think this has the subtle approach to it. The Versace scarf is leopard print in light pink.

Ok...so, there you go. Some ideas for casual Friday for us plus-size gals. If you have some of your own ideas you'd like to share, please do buzz me. It would be great to hear your thoughts too.

Anyway, HAPPY MONDAY everyone!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-54813795112173164392014-02-20T01:27:00.001+08:002016-04-07T14:32:10.092+08:00Jeans for Plus-SizeSo apparently some women, like myself, have difficulty finding the right pair of jeans. This is a must-have in our wardrobe, darlings. Yes, jeans. Every women should have at least a pair. Not going to waste time talking about the history of jeans. But we all crave to own a Levi's 501. Unfortunately for me, being a plus-size, I never owned one. At least not the original. Unless you are rich, the only way to get plus sizes is from abroad. The problem with Malaysian fashion buyers for big brands are they just cater to slim women.

Growing up, I always had a problem with jeans. I am what you'd call a pear shape. Bottom heavy. My butt was so big that my mum would always tease me. As we all know, jeans are great to accentuate your butt. Heck, we women oogle over men's butts in jeans. Yummy! Anyway, back to us ladies. Especially us plus-size women, it is hard to find one that fits well. For me personally, I've always had to buy jeans 1 size bigger. And this is to fit my butt. I dare not tuck in my top because it would just show how loose the jeans is around my waist. And now, as I got older, surprise surprise, I start losing my butt and I can no longer buy pure denim jeans.

What's my solution? Spandex! Jeggings! Anything that makes the jeans stretch! And being plus-size, you have no choice but to buy mommy jeans. Yes, those high-waisted pair. Please stop being in denial, and admit that we cannot really feel comfortable in those sexy low-cut jeans. Yes, those young sexy Guess? models may be able to pull it off, but that's just it...they're young and sexy!

So, where would I buy them? 3 retail stores come to mind.

1. Dorothy Perkins
2. BHS (I only know of the store in Bangsar Village)
3. Marks & Spencer

Now, what types would suit what body? Let me share my own personal opinion.

For those vertically challenged plus-size women like myself, there are only 2 types you should wear. Skinny jeans and bootcut.

Skinny is good when you have something long on top. Or if your tummy isn't as bulat as mine, then keep the top short. But what skinny does is that it makes your legs look longer. Unfortunately if you have big hips and small ankles, DON'T wear skinny jeans! It just makes you look even shorter and bigger really. It then shows your heavy parts. Skinny jeans are denim mix with spandex. So it stretches. My hips are huge, but I think because my calves are and ankle are proportionately big too, it just looks ok. This skinny jeans I got from Dot Perks! On a good day (during sale of course), they go at RM96 or sometimes RM169 for 2. Great bargain for Me!

Bootcut is another good silhouette for plus-size. What it does is it balances our heavy parts. Bootcut jeans with spandex fabric infused in the denim is an overall body slimming magic! But again, the top plays an important role nonetheless. Don't wear long tops with bootcut. Then everything looks big from top to bottom. Bootcuts are good to hide big calves. What I am doing wrong in the photo below is that I wore bootcut with slippers! Selipar jamban tak sesuai. But what the heck, I was on holiday in Mauritius here! So what shoes would work? Well, boots for sure. But yeah, we're in hot and humid Malaysia and boots are not recommended as they're suitable for winter or some extra fun that we wont go into here... So, no boots for bootcut? Of course with the right occasion, go ahead. But what would look nice is a pair of wedges! and of course sexy red high heels!

If you still can't find the perfect jeans, tackle jeggings instead. This is godsend, I tell ya. Jeggings are flattering and comfortable. Go playful with colours. Red, blue, pink. Have fun with it. Check out the photo below...need I say more?

But before you make any purchase, please do try them on. When you do, try sitting down. Walk in them, jump if you can. Make sure it fits you nicely. And seriously, don't attempt low cuts unless you are ready to constantly pull up your jeans all the time, especially when you get up. It's not flattering, darling! Another important thing to consider, the butt part. Make sure that fits nicely too. Loose behind just makes for sloppy style.

oh! Another important thing when choosing your jeans...when you try them on, pull it up nicely, and make sure there is no CAMEL TOE!!! yucks!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-14405336872816454122014-02-18T03:26:00.003+08:002016-04-06T17:24:04.874+08:00Plus-size Dress tipsHow was your Sunday? I had gone out with my bff for some dimsum and did some window shopping. Yes, you heard me, window shopping. After Bangkok, I've successfully refrained myself from shopping. Sure, a little here and there for my daughter is not shopping. Then again, I am saving up for my next trip.

Anyway, considering I have not gone shopping, nor trying out clothes so much, I thought why not make a list of some of the obvious tips for us plus-size girls in picking the right dress. I've tried em all, and will share with you what I personally think works for us big girls. And then, I will also point out what's a no-no for us too.

Dresses - my favourite. I must admit, at one time, I hated wearing dresses. I always felt it made me look even shorter. But with the right length, and the right design, dresses are great silhouette for plus-sizes. The most important factor is your body shape and size.

If you’ve got a lot of curves, but not so much height, shopping for a dress can seem like a daunting task. You’ll drown in a floor-length dress, and ankle-length hemlines will make
you look even shorter than you are. What does work for you? Dresses
that falls right at the knee. Keeping your calves visible will elongate your legs,
while covering your thighs will create sleeker lines in your figure. Me...I am a shorty! So, ideally, knee-length dress is the way to go.

Swing dress helps create waistline. It will provide an hourglass look that all women seek. Of course not including waifs. With swing dress, nice to add in a belt. Thin belt. Unless you really do have shape, then by all means use the wide belt. Please don't wear figure hugging dresses if you do not have a flat tummy. In Malay, we call those who wears close fitting clothes - SARUNG NANGKA. No, we do not want to look like those fabric farmers wrap their jackfruits with. We celebrate our curves, not our tummy.

When wearing these dresses, pick designs that aren't too big. For example, big flowers will just make you look wider. It will look as though you are wearing your curtain.

Even a dress in the same shape and size, when it has bolder wider prints will just make you look bigger. This is more obvious when it is a shift dress. Shifts are good as long as your tummy does not show. Also to consider, the size of your arm. If you, like me, inherited big arms from the glorious gene pool, avoid sleeveless.

But if you are tall, and plus-size, you can get away with anything. Height definitely helps hide your fats. Below are photos of my bestfriend wearing the exact same dress as me, and looking gorgeous. The kaftan dress looks way better on her, and she is not overpowered by it. On me, it just became top heavy and seriously frumpy! I looked like a midget it in. Now, with this, make sure to pair them with a plain handbag and shoes either in black, or brown. I don't agree with some that says to wear with bright colours. I just feel it would add on to the already busy design.

Other dresses to consider are of course the timeless vintage style. These are dresses that anyone can pull off. Ok ok, with the exception of ME! The strapless figure hugging dress works for plus-sizes. You don't have to be skinny to look good. Add a statement necklace with it, and a contrasting purse, and you are set for a great night out. You should wear high heels with this dress. Flats will be too boring when you have such a hot dress on.

I love the wide collared dress. Very 60s. It adds drama to the rather plain dress really. And if you have these wide collars, DON'T wear any necklaces. Keep the earrings small. Do not wear with dangling earrings. This dress is cute to wear with flats. Can't help but imagine Maria walking to meet Captain Von Trapp for the first time, singing her way to win the hearts of the kids. I love vintage design!

I hope these tips helped you. Any more ideas would be great too. I would love to hear your opinions as well. Some of these dresses are for sale. Let me know if you'd like to have a view of what is available from my collection. Do leave your comments below! Cheers!
Today was made special when I got to catch up with my girlfriends over dinner and drinks...and lots of laughter. Of course it also came with some sulking and bitching. And when we left the restaurant, Juanita gave me the third compliment for my favourite red shoes. Yes, the third. And honey, having people to say they like what you wear is definitely a pick-me-upper.

It all started in the morning. As usual, I woke up with heavy heart. When you are unhappy with work, waking up will always be difficult. And of course it doesnt help that my car has been misbehaving. So, all in all, it hasn't really been a great few weeks for me. I also was at a lost as to what to wear for work. Found a black and white top from Debenhams that I haven't worn for quite a while, squeezed my fat ass into a Dorothy Perkins pencil skirt and rushed out to work. And if my cute new neighbour saw me scoot off to work, he'd probably shake his head. There I was all dressed up, but wearing my cotton on slippers! Selipar jamban as we would lovingly call it here in Malaysia!

You see, my car is basically a shoe rack. I have at least 4 pairs of shoes on standby in the car. In assorted colours for different clothes. After a rather surprising smooth drive to the office, I parked the car in my reserved bay, I looked back at my choices and decided to wear my favourite red shoes. As I had chosen a rather dull ensemble of clothing, I knew I had to add in a pop of colour. With my laptop bag saddled on my shoulder, an unfamiliar lady smiled at me and said, "I love your shoes." Ting ting ting...a smile crept up on my lips. What a great feeling that got me. I suddenly catwalked my way up to my desk. You know that effect you see in the movies where the actor appears as though they are floating? That was how I felt...funny how a compliment from a perfect stranger could make you feel good.

Now, that's just the morning. Of course by now you'd realised how easy it is to make me happy. I was feeling confident and on top of this world. Today was supposed to be a full day for me. From organising and delegating work between my staffs, having lunch with a colleague and then 2 meetings to attend back to back. But when you know you look good, it boosts your confidence, and trust me, it shows. See, even a plus-size woman can exube confidence. I was absolutely motivated today, despite waking up like a zombie.

After lunch, I was filled with ideas and feeling very productive. Happily chatting with my staff whom I know absolutely hates me. Even came up with some last minute idea for an event! And as I was preparing to attend my first meeting, a male colleague came up to me, and whispered, "I love your shoes." Yes, the exact same words. Second time of the day! I knew there was a good reason why red is my favourite colour!

My confidence went up sky high. Again, I continued walking with my head held up high. I absolutely love this feeling. This is why I believe we should always make an effort in choosing our wardrobe. Being plus-size doesn't mean it's the end of the world.

Then by late afternoon, my day got better when my bestfriend buzzed me for a catch up. Made even better when another friend also managed to join us. It is always great when you get girlfriends together, chit chating, bitching, grumbling, laughing. Genuine friendship.

Then as we were leaving Delicious, Juanita said, "I love your shoes" and that just made my day complete. I told them about the other two identical compliments, and how it has absolutely made my day. My top and skirt were like the accessories today.
Sorry about that. Have been busy at work, and now a long break. Been busy planning my next holiday trip too.

I was recently in the company of over 20 shallow Malay men. Sadly, it just reinforces my perception of them. More than mere perception when I got to experience how narrow minded they are too. Perhaps it is men in general and not just that specific race. But alas, this experience was with that race. But who would want to hear my rant about being the "butt" of their fat jokes, right?

Anyway, as I mentioned, I am planning a getaway. Been so busy with work, and traveling for work, I realised I needed a real break. One that does not involve shopping. I've yet to decide on a destination, but a beach holiday would be ideal. I know not many of us big girls like beach holidays. Wearing swimsuits scares the s%$# out of me. I haven't gone scuba diving for this very same reason. I hate wearing those weights just so I could sink into the sea. I hate wearing wet suits because it shows my unflattering figure. So many people are surprised that I have a diving licence. As usual, people are surprised that fat people have hobbies. They just assumed we are lazy and not into extreme activities. I just get so uncomfortable when people who are thin says they look like whales when they sun bathe. So, I've been avoiding beach holidays for the longest time until I lose my weight. But I love the sun, sea and sand too much. And I miss it so bad now.

Well, lucky for us plus-size gals, there are brands which carries swim wears that "covers" somehow. A favourite of mine is Marks & Spencer. I love their tummy control swimsuits. It has a concealed control panel within the swimsuit, just at the tummy area, obviously. The swimsuit stays tight at the belly part, but you may bulge a little. Of course, when you're not in the water, best to wear a kaftan.
Debenhams
also carries plus-sizes swimsuits. But they do not have the tummy
control types here in KL. If you travel abroad and come across Debenhams, try to scout for the plus sizes tummy control ones. They are far cheaper than Marks & Spencer.
Thin cotton types or chiffon are suitable for the beach and the pool as it won't get heavy when wet. But I prefer kaftans. I would usually wear my kaftans with shorts. And of course as a silhouette, pick bright colours. Being by the sea, black is not an option unless you want to keep warm and sweaty as the heat is absorbed. Choose bright colours or design. Being our size, AVOID big white kaftans. As cliche as the idea of a white shirt being sexy, unless the shirt is cut with a waist line, big girls should not wear big white shirt as it really adds on the pounds! I personally like chiffon kaftans as they dry up so fast. In fact, you can just wash it and still wear it again the next day. Of course, fashion forward people won't want to be seen in the same clothes 2 days in a row. But hey, to the beach, it's the swimsuit that matters.
You can also opt for a maxi dress, This is an easy choice as you only need to slip it on. Again, choose those made of chiffon or anything thin. It will dry up fast and wont cling to the body. Plus-size ladies should try to avoid thick cotton t-shirts. Wet look is just not appealing on women our size.

Jerseys which are often made into beachwears are only for times when you know you won't get wet. This is an excellent example of heavy wet clothes. Maybe a night out or during lunches. But not to cover your wet suits. They tend to get real heavy, and do not dry up fast enough. Tie & dyes are the trend right now. Wear that for the night out to party or dinner. Or just a walk on the beach.

Now, these won't be complete without accessories. Bead necklaces are perfect to wear as it won't get spoiled by the water. Even those made of wood. But try to get them in the city, and not at your holiday destinations. Usually those sold at beach holidays are double the price it is actually worth. However, if your clothes already has a busy design, try to avoid chunky accessories. These blue stones I bought in Bangkok would be suitable for plain thin cotton dresses for those evening outings.

During the day, wearing a chunky wooden bangle will add colour to your look, especially if you do wear those plain kaftans or even the swim suit. And they don't spoil easily. Accessories for beach holidays should not be those flashy diamontes. Those made of beads, fabric, shells are better options. Again, wearing these are meant to compliment the clothes you wear, not overpower them.

Other accessories that would look good for island getaways are these:
The article was written by a woman who had lost weight and how her perception had changed. But above all that, she also realised how people's perception about her changed, and how they behaved towards her had suddenly made a 360 degree change too. Unfortunately for me, I have yet to lose weight. The article titled "What Losing 100 Pounds Taught Me About How We Treat Overweight People", seemed written by someone with a vengeance and I dont blame her. The writer, Jasmin, had lost almost 100 pounds in a year (I am jealous! and now I am looking for this juice diet she did). She soon realised that in general, once she had lost weight, her surroundings changed.

All my life, since I was a child, I have never been thin, slim, normal for that matter. Was a chubby baby. A big girl. And even in high school, I was overweight. But not grotesquely big, not obese. Well, I'd rather not call myself that, though I know some have used that term on me. I have always been that girl with that extra something to hold on to.

It's no fun having to always buy extra meters for fabrics to make clothes. It's no fun having to just search through XL sizes when you walk in a store. Worse when you can only enter stores you know sell only big sizes. It was no fun knowing I couldn't take My mum's hand-me-downs when she is so slim and fashionable. As a teenager, being big was traumatising. Seeing all the slim girls getting all the attention from boys and girls alike. I felt small despite being big.

At one point, I started dressing up like a tomboy. Only because it allowed me to wear baggy clothes and hide that extra fats I had. Fortunately for me, I was an eighties child, where fashion was about being comfortable and everyone was wearing big clothes. But deep down, I wanted to wear pretty clothes and in some ways, look sexy. I always wanted to get attention I know I couldn't. I hung around girls that would do anything just to get attention. Tried to be "cool" and break rules. Skipped school. Smoked and just tried to grow up too fast. All because I hated the way people treated me as a big fat girl. I was envious of those pretty girls who always seems to get the guys. I hated how people would call me baby elephant. I hated how boys only saw me as the other guy, and not a girl.

Things changed as I got little older. I changed. I started enjoying sports. I had always used asthma as an excuse to not do physical ed classes. But I began loving baseball. The closest thing to baseball back in school was softball. I decided to join, and train, and best of all re-acquainted myself with friends that made a difference in my life.

It was through this club that I realised friendship is far more important than making boys notice me. I believe it was also through this club that I discovered my bestfriend. Initially, I was told I was too fat for softball. But I think I got a great coach who believed in me. Of course there were some in the club that weren't too keen on me being in their team. But fortunately for me, there were more supporters than bullies there.

I gained confidence. I started loving myself. And I was just having fun. This feeling continued even into college. Despite being a size 12 then, I never saw myself as the fat one out...I was just being myself and having a great time. And people didn't treat me differently. Yes, there will be some bullies around with all the name-calling. But it never disturbed me as much as it did back in school. They were not important. I even found love and got married.

But things changed after I gave birth. I put on weight like nobody's business. I failed to look after myself and I ballooned up to a size 18. I hated the feeling so much. And I became somewhat of a recluse...I avoided old friends. I changed how I dressed. I didn't socialise. And I was so focused on keeping my then husband happy and doing whatever he wants. I was at my lowest then.

Before my daughter turned 1, my then husband met with an accident. He had fallen off a forklift clipper and crushed his spine. He became paraplegic and required my full attention. I was there for him for his journey to recovery. I even had to put my studies on hold for a whole semester for him. Once I graduated, I had a full time and a part time job so I could support the family. He had to go for physio every other day until he was able to walk again.

We had to move in with my family, as his was in another state. While at work and attending to him, my daughter was in my mother's care. For over a year, we lived this way. Unfortunately for me, he was never grateful. He became bitter. Treated himself like an outsider with my parents. Accused my parents of looking down at him and family because they came from the "kampung". We started fighting a lot. Worse when he'd start the fight in front of our daughter. He even asked me to stop working. And it slowly struck me how I had given up so much for him.

Anyway, to make this long story short, I asked for a divorce, and started focusing back on myself. At this point, I was almost a size 20. Yeah, some would go through stress and lose weight. I somehow managed to just keep gaining.

In order to lose weight, I tried so many things. I started taking this laxative-kind of tea. Slimming tea so they call it. Major horror story that was. I even took pills.

At the same time I chose to leave the very "government-like" Malay culture of a job, and applied for work that I have always wanted to do. Being an art director in advertising. Back in that "government" job, I was treated badly. Typically, men would never hold the door for you, nor want you seated next to them at lunch. They would make fat jokes whenever possible. I hated the environment. I hated how they choose to make me feel, against how they would treat women they find appealing. As a divorcee, you start seeing all this again. When I was married, I had put out that shield that says, "Who cares! I am married and only my husband matters".

So, when I got my divorce, I knew I had to change. I also found a diet that worked for me - Atkins. I avoided carbo, and lost a good 18kg. But of course, I was also in and out of the gym every other day. Lucky I had my bestfriend working nearby. That motivated the gym trips as we would go together always.

But yeah, people behaved differently soon after. Even though I was still overweight, it wasn't like I was obese. I had extra meat. I prefer to say I had more curves than the skinnies. But I was proportionate! hahahah!!

I chose to ignore the bullies. I started dressing well, and learned that it is a matter of how I carried myself. I started caring about my appearance. I began wearing make-up. Learned tips on how to make myself look slimmer. At the same time continued dieting. I was a hot single mother I would say. I was dating again. I had a good life. Despite not getting a single cent from the divorce and having to be my daughter's sole provider, I was doing ok.

Then work got in the way. Advertising is a crazy industry. Trust me, it's not glamorous as how some would perceived it to be. I just needed to make more money to support my daughter and so I lost focus of looking after myself. As my daughter got older, more money was needed. And so I enslaved myself into work, and gained weight again. I was not eating properly, nor eating at the right time.

I hardly had time for myself, let alone for my daughter. I was forced to work odd hours and even sacrificing my weekends. When the offer came to leave agency life, I took it with open arms, thinking how lucky I was. But what really happened was, I left the lion's den only to enter the dragon's cave!

I was back in a very Malay culture. I am Malay, but I can never resonate with the community's way of thinking. The fat bullies returned. Name-calling came back to haunt me. Men would say nasty stuff to make it clear to me that fat women were not accepted in social situations. They will say it too clearly that unless I am thin, I am not welcomed. Stupid things like their car cant hold my weight to avoid giving me a ride. They will say things like I alone will fill up a photo. I really do hate this situation. I hate that they have no care about how I felt. I did sulk a bit before. In fact, I have been called a racist to my own kind. But I don't care anymore. I've come to an age where all I should care about is making money for my daughter and feeling good about myself. I choose to now ignore those bigots. I dress however I like - yes, skirts and dresses are frowned upon by the people around me at work. But now I say, WHO CARES!

This is why I chose to start this blog. To share my experience and to help where possible. I am not a shrink nor a psychologist, but I can help you dress better to make yourself feel good. I chose to be happy. I cant change how people think of fat people. But I can change how they see me. Recently, I got complimented for my looks by the same fool that made fun of my size...may just be 1 person, but it's a start.
And you know how they will always give you a few magazines to keep you entertained as your hair gets full attention. An array of magazines were placed on the table, one of which had my favourite actress on the cover. It was the Malaysian Her World.

So, what I wanted to talk about today is how oblivious their editors are. One of the sections in this magazine is called herStyle Workshop. For this October issue (Ok, so I am reading 4 months backdated stories), they had 8 pages of fashion tips titled "look 5kg thinner now". I think the tips were excellent. I'd vouch for them.

From what I could recall, first tip was to wear pencil skirts. For curvy women, this work wonders. Which is why I wear them a lot to work. I think I have so many pencil skirts in many designs and colours. Also, you can wear at any length and it will still help to make you look slimmer, even for plus-size women.

Second tip was to wear shirt-dresses. Sooooo agree too. Shirt-dresses are great to create the silhouette of a slimmer figure. Add a belt and maybe leggings will help too.

I cant recall anymore what was the rest. But if you get a chance, and come upon the magazine, read up. Because they were good tips.

But the thing that baffled me was how they used stick thin women to model their recommended clothes. And the model was really really thin. You look at the legs and you know the model is skinny. So, basically the magazine failed to show that the clothes and the style actually helped to give the illusion it's suppose to.

Why write articles and tips for curvy women, when you use stick thin models? It just does not make sense. Weird really. Epic fail as my daughter would call that.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-83043245499005222042014-01-19T23:50:00.003+08:002014-01-19T23:50:44.690+08:00Long Weekend Away!Hello, lovely ladies...So, another long weekend came and went. With Thaipusam on 17th January 2014, we Malaysians got our last long weekend before Chinese New Year.

Whilst you were out enjoying yourself, unfortunately for me, I was at work. Work weekend or not, I prefer to be well-dressed. Or so I hope. Here's some weekend look I think any plus-size person could pull-off:

Jeans are always welcomed over the weekend. With a plain white shirt, I added this beautiful pink Versace scarf to add more colour to it. And weekends are when we'd wear our big-ass bags. So, what would match it best if not the coral YSL easy bag. This is a casual but stylish look, I would say. But yeah, a bit of effort needs to be put in from the wearer.

So, if you are the lazy kind, here are 3 solutions:

Simple casual clothes, dressed down and comfortable. But these are clothes for your off days. Please don't wear them to work. I have seen some plus-size women guilty of dressing down for work. Of course it depends on your work environment, but being plus-size, wearing it too casual can be bad. If you still insist, at least team them up with the right accessories.

Well, for today's outing with my daughter, I chose something to complement my new hairstyle. Ok, so some would say I was trying too hard to look younger. Maybe! But why not? I am an independent woman who loves life. And guess what? My daughter don't mind, so shouldn't you.

Anyway, I had a choice between 2 dresses from Dorothy Perkins. The first one is a maroon dress with white flowers. Very casual, fitting for weekend shopping day. The wrap dress has cap sleeves and a waist tie. 100% Cotton. It is quite low neck, hence I had to wear an inner in white. Decided to match this with a pair of Schutz wedges in nude tone, and the brown Jim Thompson bag is a neutral choice.

My second option was a light cream dress with black and gold motives. It is a little high waisted, with a ribbon tie at the back. Bought this dress in Dubai Dorothy Perkins. However, I bought it in size 20, because I have thick arms. But this made the area under the armpit and the waist a bit frumpy. Think I will wait until I lose more weight before I wear this out in public! Anyway, I thought to match it with my Wallis tote, and again the nude Schutz wedges.

This is why I love Dorothy Perkins. They do come in sizes beyond 12. Plus-size heaven too!

So, between the two, I finally chose the maroon dress as the waistline is where it should be. So, plus-size girls, head on to Dorothy Perkins as they do have options for us.

Even though it was the weekend, I think we plus-size ladies still needs to look good. Don't go out wearing baggy boring clothes, coz it does reflect your personality. Don't give up. Perhaps, like me, you'll be even more motivated to lose the weight. So, in the meantime, dress well.

Something to start the new year...a fresh new look. I'll be turning 40 next year, and yet I dont feel it. I remember as a child how I saw 40 as OLD. But here I am at 38, and still think I am in my early 30s instead. I know some would say I am just in denial. But truthfully speaking, I dont feel my age. Is that bad? I see women younger than me looking older. Or maybe it's their behaviour. So, maybe it is me being in denial. Hahahah.

Anyway, this afternoon, I went to my hairstylist and told him about my problematic curly hair. Of course it was all freezy and dry. So naturally, a typical stylist will insist treatment first before anything else. Then I told him I needed a trim as I do have thick hair. And I said I needed a change. Out came the book and he suggested 4 inches and more to dispose! After 5 mins of deliberation, and half an hour of treatment and shoulder massage, I agreed to the cut. And here's the end result.

I am wearing another version of the tie and dye dress that I bought in Bangkok, along with a synthetic leather (aka PVC la sebenarnya) bag that actually has my name on it. Match that with the blue shoes I bought from Opera, that helped elongated my figure. I looked taller! The hair definitely made me look younger too. So, heels do help to give you length!

I feel great. And I am ready to rock 2014!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-2916562445142945592014-01-09T18:21:00.001+08:002014-01-09T18:21:07.550+08:00Prepping for the weekendWeekend's finally creeping up on me. Finally smiled today. Has not been a great week at work. But business definitely going well. Made more sales the other night. Friends asked me to upload photos of dresses that I have for sale here on my blog. Tapi macam malas aje. Not lazy to sell, but I'd want them to be professionally photographed, or at least decent enough to look appealing. Remember some earlier post of them dress? Not up to the standard I'd expect from someone selling clothes ya! hahahah!

Will try to make time this weekend to shoot them clothes ok. But will need models. Any takers? hehehe..

So, what are your plans for the weekend? Weddings to attend? Shopping? Class? Getaway perhaps? It is a long weekend after all. Yes, here in Malaysia, next Tuesday is a holiday. So, safe to assume many would be taking Monday off.

For me, I'd make the best of this weekend as I will be working next weekend the 18th, and it is in some rural area....yikes.

Think I need retail therapy....
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-86351675482516567442014-01-08T07:30:00.000+08:002014-01-08T07:30:12.181+08:00Plus-size Animal! So we're now in the second week of work. Are you still wearing boring work clothes? Still sticking with plain black and whites? Still wearing boring pumps?

Ever thought of wearing animal print? Well, here's a few tips on wearing animal prints.

1. Don't use big prints - if it's leopard, make sure it's the smaller or actual size. Again, being plus-size, we do not want the prints to overpower the outfit. The fact that we're big, there are more "space" for these things, hence big prints will just add to the weight.

2. Don't wear full print unless it is a dress - Leave it either on the skirt or the top, never both. Or if it's on your shoes, don't wear it on anything else, except for bags. Again, I can't stress enough how important it is to keep prints small or minimal if you are a plus-size. Always complement the print with plain items. Make sure the colour matches.

Ok..ok...so my belt was a bit loose here, but that just means I've lost weight and need to do some shopping! Yay!!!

3. If you are already wearing the print on your clothes, don't have it as accessory. Lets not over-do it. It's just an eye-sore. We know how plus-sizes are often bullied. So, don't give opportunity to these bullies to call you animal names!

4. If it's a jacket, make sure the top and bottom are plain. For example, a plain white or black t-shirt with jeans, or slacks.

We're all in leopards..and it wasn't planned!

5. Wear animal prints that are in their natural colour, or closer to it. Don't go wearing pink leopards, or purple zebra lines. Again, being plus size, we'll just make it too loud. That's not appealing. Yes, we do want attention. But not negative attention.

So, who said plus-size can't and shouldn't wear animal prints? Do I look bad? Please be honest!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-86667665809402751032014-01-05T15:55:00.001+08:002014-01-06T00:05:08.985+08:00My 1st Great FashioBIGsta Sale!Yesterday, I had a soiree at Linda's place. Though it was a small get together, it had put a smile on everyone's faces. Yes, I had my little flee market. My shopping collection from all around the world was on sale. My collection of plus-size clothes, along with Linda's was on full display. Our friends got to try them on and given advise on how to best wear them too. It was a mini fashion show for us!

Perhaps next time you could host and I will bring my collection and you could see how it works on your own fashion items. Dresses were matched with own jacket and belt. It was a fun session indeed. Don't just buy an item because it fits. Make sure it looks good, and it is also versatile.
I know many would still be on holiday and will probably start afresh next week. Today, I decided to get dress for success...lame! For work, I chose to wear a lovely swing dress I bought from Wallis. This is another versatile dress. Sleeveless and knee length. The skirt however is not straight. It is actually a mullet. But just about 4 inches fall at the back. It also comes with a thin black belt. Now, to ensure I get the waistline for this, I wore my corset.

So, for work, I needed to make myself look professional. For that just add on a jacket. And anyway, work won't allow sleeveless. I guess it was my only choice really. With this kind of dress, dont wear long jacket. Keep it short or otherwise it will hide the flow of the skirt. It is a swing dress after all.

So, this very same outfit can also be worn in the evening. Just remove the jacket! As simple as that.

Did you usher in 2014 in style? I believe I did. But silly me, I forgot to take a nice shot of myself last night. A few of my friends and I decided to go to a 5-star hotel for their New Year's Eve party, which also had 2 bands playing. Thinking there would be a massive traffic jam in KL, we head downtown as early as 7pm, only to arrive in 15 mins and able to have dinner first without rushing.

Anyway, it was my first ever New Year's Eve party to be honest. Usually, I would spend it with the family at home, and would head uphill to see fireworks from multiple places. This year, I just felt like being with my friends, surrounded by a bunch of strangers...

I must say, it was great fun!

Yes, each time we get to the end of the year, everyone will start laying out their new year's resolution. Typically it would be to lose weight, or to make more money, and many more. Often, we never fulfill them. So, what is your resolution for 2014? A friend sent a link on an article about resolutions on Elite Daily. It is rather interesting, and I agree with her, it was a good read.

But instead of it being a new year's resolution for me, I think I am already doing half of what is on that article. I am making a change in my life, with small measures. For one, this blog. My love for fashion and shopping. I realised I may as well put it to good use. And since I've launched the blog, have gotten great support from friends and slowly, but surely, it will be a hit (Like the little train says...I think I can...I think I can...).

So, here's hoping that 2014 will turn out great for me, and for you as well. Happy 2014 people!!!
When I tried it on in Bangkok immediately after the purchase, I wasn't too impressed. I felt that probably only tall lanky women could pull it off. Never in a million years I imagined I'd look and feel great in it.

The design I fell in love with had geometric design on it, in white and grey. It is sleeveless, and falls to my ankle. Here's a photo of me in it in Bangkok...

So, today, I decided to explore and play with this dress. Initially I tried it on with the thick spandex belt, but it only emphasized my tummy, instead of giving me a waist. I then switched to a thin black belt, and to hide my arm, I put on my short blazer with three quarter sleeves. Slipped on my grey open toe wedges, and added on a simple black earring and my favourite turquoise ring. For work, I usually tie up my hair in a bun. And voila!

So, what is the one essential a woman would and should never forget to bring with her? Her purse! A handbag. A pouch. A clutch. A bag. Anything to hold those little important bits - money, her smartphone, her cards, her lipstick, her tissue, her powder. Anything. Sometimes she'd carry a big bag that would also contain first aid kit, wet wipes, nail clipper, nail filer, pen etc. Yes, a woman is always with a bag.

I love my bags. I love matching clothes with bags. It may not match in colors, nor must it match with shoes (as I had stated in an earlier post), as long as it compliments the outfit. Bags, as we know it, comes in different shapes and sizes, apart from colour and material. Bags should not drown your outfit either. So, here are some ideas on what to wear with what on which occasion:

Work
If you work in an office, there's a certain level of
professionalism that you need to maintain. Outfits
in a formal office requires for a non-flashy leather bag that is not
too small nor too big. Be it leather or even PVC or fabric, one colour, simple designs are considered the better choice. While you might not be able to play much with
the glittery side, you could always experiment with colours. Black and brown are the
obvious choice, but don’t be scared to try bags that are red or purple. When you wear colour, just like work clothes, it exudes confidence. Also it conveys your emotion and mood. Always better to seem cheerful and happy. Black and brown gets boring, especially if you are wearing that same colour. When you wear black, it is always nicer to use coloured bags, and shoes. Try out prints. Leopards are the rave now. If your outfit is plain, print helps to provide the excitement to an otherwise dull outfit (Though I'd suggest to drop the dull clothes!). Suitable bags for work are: Structured bag, shoulder bags, hobos, doctor bags and even draw strings. Sometimes baquette works too, as long as you are one of those who uses a small purse.

Sergio Rossi Leopard Suede Shoulder Bag

Casual
Depends on your outfit, bags for casual wear is much easier to choose. In fact, we don't even need to match with anything. However, being the size that we are, do avoid real big bags. That just adds on to our "weight", visually. Contrary to popular belief, small bags does not make a woman look bigger. In fact, the lesser items you have on, the better. I think those so-called advises that plus-size woman should wear big bags are misguided and just silly. No, we do not want to put on more weight. So, for casual wear, bags like hobos, draw strings, totes are recommended. Don't ever wear crossbody if possible. Either have your bag over your shoulder, or carry over arm. But do avoid big prints. Even on clothes I suggest plus-sizes to NEVER wear big prints, either on clothes or even on bags. NO-NO!

Coach Laura Signature Tote

Evening
Now, here's my favourite! I am crazy over evening bags. My favourite at the moment is the minaudiere. Minaudiere became popular when Alexander McQueen came out with the skull designs. It inspired so many designs in the market now, in so many colours and sizes. Since evening wear is all about showing off your elegant dress or oozing of elegance, then always use a small bag/purse. So, apart from minaudiere, clutches and also tube clutches are recommended. Sometimes, even an envelope purse can look elegant. If you are wearing a glittery dress, then use only a simple 1 colour clutch. However, if your dress is a little black dress, that's when you can be playful and use diamonte kind of bags. Again, keep the size of your bag small. You do not want the headache and discomfort of carrying a big bag and definitely not to overshadow your outfit. Again, forget about taboo that plus-size cannot wear small bags. That is simply not true! As I had shown in my earlier blog, a small clutch can make that outfit complete.

Alexander McQueen Minaudière

Amazing!! My favourite UK Retailer, Debenhams used a more ‘real’ advertising approach in their latest catalog back in June. Debenhams vowed to stop using airbrushed models in their advertising campaigns and have now taken it a step further in their latest catalogue, using unconventional models - with disabilities as well as customers, older models and plus size models. They believe they can sell their clothes using real people and they are very serious about it, even to the extent of being one of the first retailers to have larger, curvier mannequins in their stores. They're also telling rivals that they have a "moral
obligation" to follow suit.

The Telegraph UK reported that Debenhams‘ main goal in making these advertising changes was due to several studies claiming that airbrushed images of supermodels and celebrities were affecting the self-esteem of young girls. No more using techniques such as arm
slimming, thinning legs, whitening the eyes and teeth or "enhancing"
the cleavage. Like all DI's for any photoshoot.

Sharon Webb, Debenhams head of lingerie buying and design, told The Telegraph UK:“We want to help customers feel confident about their figures without bombarding them with unattainable body images.”

For this I applaud them. Keeping it real for their real consumers. I guess this is why Debenhams is one of my favourite retailer. Here are some of the images that are available in their catalogue:
I hope other retailers will soon be as real too. Stick thin models only bring out the worst in people and they definitely influence the youth self-esteem. I have witnessed myself how a 9 year old refuses to eat as she thinks being skinny is the way of life. Being healthy is one thing, but skinny? Again, I do not condone being obese. But not everyone is lucky to have the skinny genes. And instead of encouraging us big girls to lose weight, some have resorted to mocking us, even ridiculing us. These images are the real story, and we just want to look good too.

2 thumbs up to Debenhams !!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12013121381169133388noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8236793392763434835.post-53480429988497608832013-12-28T17:27:00.000+08:002014-01-03T15:24:23.474+08:00How to Wear Tie & Dye DressSo, here's 2 looks I pulled off from the Bangkok purchase. My favourite tie & dye dress, made of rayon and spandex material, that I bought from a little shop in front of my hotel in Pratunam. I loved the heavy material, as it was also very comfortable to wear.

While in Bangkok, decided to wear this out for dinner just round the corner from our hotel. Little bit of make up, my favourite black bag from Wallis, and my trustworthy flats from Opera. I accessorized myself with a blue wooden bangle and red stones necklace which I bought in Chatuchak. The dress clung nicely around my knees, and loose around the centre. Hides the tummy really well.

Casual in Bangkok

Eventhough the dress is actually quite casual looking, but with the right accessories, I believe I made it look suitable for a night out. So, for the last Friday of 2013, my friend and I decided to go out partying, and again, I chose to wear this dress again.

As the design had pink and blue dye, I decided to match with my new light blue minaudiere, an Alexander McQueen inspired studded minaudiere. And of course my all-too-reliable shoes. My feet still hurts from all that shopping in Bangkok. Almost wore my flats last night, but knew I needed something to make me feel sexy...so what option do I have but to wear my most comfortable high heels.

Fun in KL

Had on bangles I bought from Mauritius, a blue and pink ensemble, and wore my simple Chanel earrings. And I love big rings. so, put on my favourite turquoise ring from Forever21 to complete the look. Had my hair up in a bun, and yes, I am one of those who thinks having my hair up in front adds to the illusions of longer face (I believe it does!!).

Anyway, had a blast last night. And it's always a good sign when I get asked to dance by several guys...

Oh why bother?! We're plus size. Nothing ever suits our body shape. So, don't bother being trendy. Just think about looking good, and feeling great. What you wear says a lot about yourself. Being trendy isn't everything. In fact, sometimes, being too in-trend can turn out to be tacky or even desperate. One needs to realize that fashion designers these days create clothing based on their stick thin model muse. There are but a few great designers out there that accepts women in all shapes and colours.

One in particular that I love is Tadashi Shoji. He dressed Octavia Spencer for the Oscars and since then, I have fallen in love with his work. Tadashi Shoji is known for designing for all ages, all ethnicities, and all figures. He uses figure-flattering techniques, such as draping, ruching, and shutter pleats, to accentuate the positives. His signature pieces include draped jersey gowns, pleated chiffon gowns, and shutter pleated cocktail dresses.

Another designer you can emulate for plus size is Jessica Simpson. Her collections are often made for all sizes. She dresses women in everyday clothing. Not high end, not for skinnies.

So ladies, we big girls don't have to be dressed in rags or huge sacks. Start googling, read about fashion that suits your figure. We may not have hour glass, but we can find things that would allow us to look good. There are ways to accentuate your figure, hide your bulges and slim you down, visually that is. So don't give up and do some homework.

I am not slim, nor am I tall. I am not even fair skinned, as many Asians are obsessed about. But I think I can look good, with that extra effort.

So, here's to a new year, with new hope!
